Foreigner! “Waiting for a Girl Like You!”

Dee doo dee doo dee doh dee doo dee doh dee doo dee doh dum doh…….Dee doo dee doo dee doh dee doo dee doh dee doo dee doh dum doh!!!!
Ahhhhhhhh…Memories of long ago comes flooding back! “Waiting for a Girl Like You!” It’s 1981. I remember getting out my old cassette Boom Box Player and recording my “love ballad” mix of tunes that would include this song by Foreigner, off of the Radio Station 1440 KEYS and just hoping that the DJ wouldn’t yap all the way through the beginning of song till the singing started……but….inevitably…..the DJ would yap all the way through the beginning of the song till the singing started!
"Waiting for a Girl Like You" was the second single from the album 4, and was co-written by Lou Gramm and Mick Jones.

Guitarist Mick Jones, stated the following:
“The song just came out. I had no idea what it meant. It's the kind of song that the pen does the writing, and you don't even know where it comes from.  Sometimes you have an idea about a song, or you have a title that you base the rest of the song on, but sometimes it comes just literally from an unknown area. You'll be thinking about something completely different, and suddenly you get that inspiration. I usually know when it's happening, and I just let it flow and try not to interfere with it - just try and deliver what that thought, those feelings, mean."

It has become one of the band's most famous songs worldwide and may be one of the biggest hits in U.S. history that never made it to #1. Why you ask??? It spent 10 weeks at #2 because of the Olivia Newton-John classical masterpiece (sarcastic), “Physical”, but then got slided by “I Can’t Go For That” and “Centerfold”. This song was instrumental in exposing harder rock acts to a broader audience.

The really cool thing about this song?? The famous synthesizer theme was performed by the then-unknown Thomas Dolby (Blinded Me With Science)!!

One of the best songs of the 80’s!
